28 May News Update

FORESTRY PLANTATIONS QUEENSLAND OFFERS TO REPAIR JIMNA FIRE TOWER
Everybody involved with the campaign to preserve the Jimna Fire Tower over the past twelve months will be delighted to receive the news that current owners Forestry Plantations Queensland, (FPQ), have offered to carry out repair work for the purpose of restoring the tower to a structurally sound condition. This welcome and much appreciated development is of course fantastic news for the Jimna Fire Tower Action Group, (JFTAG), and the tower's legion of supporters, who wish, through this news release, to sincerely thank FPQ, their advisors, the Honourable Tim Mulherin minister for the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, and all the Queensland Government departments and agencies who have been instrumental in this decision. While the threat of demolition appears to be abandoned at least until all other options are evaluated, JFTAG can now focus on formulating a revised strategic plan, which will initially incorporate establishing a more representative committee, for the purpose of working in consultation with FPQ, in relation to both the short and the long term management of the Jimna Fire Tower and it's Heritage listed site.

MODEL T OWNERS IMPRESSED WITH TOWER. About a dozen Model T vintage vehicles, their proud owners and support crews, descended upon Jimna last Saturday as part of a tour of the Kilcoy Shire. While drivers and passengers were picnicking, the beautifully restored parked vehicles attracted great interest from many locals and visitors, creating a fantastic atmosphere rarely experienced in Jimna. During a stop over at the Jimna Fire Tower, the party were obviously very impressed by the imposing nature of the structure, it's construction methods and the commanding view, even at ground level. Many thanks to the Model T Owners Club of Queensland. Your visit has not only provided a memorable day for Kilcoy Shire, but has once again highlighted the tremendous potential of the Jimna Fire Tower as a tourist destination.

QUEENS BIRTHDAY WEEKEND BIG WALK. Next big walk for Jimna Fire Tower is set down for Sunday 10th June, when campers and day visitors can pick up a Jimna walking track map at the Jimna Visitor Information Centre, select one of the variety of tracks on offer, and enjoy a walk in the cool mountain air. Parking is available in Bellbird Park right in the centre of Jimna, and a fund raising sausage sizzle will operate from the Info Centre from 10am till 2pm. Camp site bookings can be made on line by visiting the Peach Trees Camping Area link on www.jimna.bravehost.com , while day trippers are welcome to use the free picnic facilities in Jimna or at the Peach Trees day use area.
