At a meeting called by the Kilcoy Branch of the Queensland Liberal National Party (LNP) on Saturday 29th August 09, the Jimna Fire Tower Action Group (JFTAG) was invited to make a presentation on behalf of the campaign to preserve the Jimna Fire Tower, and the broader issue of the management of State Forests and National Parks. The JFTAG delegation highlighted the demise of dozens of beauty spots, and the decimation of tourist infrastructure in the Jimna State Forest over the past seven years, which has been a direct result of State Government policy administered by the department responsible for the Jimna Fire Tower, Forestry Plantation Queensland (FPQ). The leader of the state opposition John-Paul Langbroek appeared receptive of the briefing, which touched on the importance of clarifying the future commercial and public use of state forests and national parks. With forest use emerging as one of the most popular recreational pursuits, and the ever increasing wild fire threat, JFTAG will continue to lobby Queensland State Government Ministers until this environmentally significant issue brings all stakeholders to the debating table.
